Welcome
The Promoting Protective Policy (P3) project is designed to support schools in a collaborative policy improvement process. Schools and the P3 team work in partnership to assess school policies to help support safe learning environments and develop training and support for policy implementation. This collaboration helps schools to identify areas of needed support or assistance to develop policies that best meet the needs of their unique community, based on best evidence of what is effective and in accordance with state and federal requirements. The primary goals are to prevent violence in schools by:
- Creating a culture and climate in the school that promotes safety,
- Developing strategies to respond to threats of potential violence,
- Providing support for those who have been harmed,
- Reducing future violence through reintegrative responses to persons alleged to have caused harm.
P3 is currently working with six Michigan school districts, but is expanding the opportunity to engage in the program. Participating schools in this project will receive:
- Individualized assessment of written policies and procedures
- Support in development of policy based on a shared understanding of priorities and assessment of training or other support needs,
- Technical assistance and training to support implementation,
- Non-discretionary funding in appreciation for their time and effort and to support policy technical assistance implementation.
